Deputy PGM's blog - Aug/Sept 2019

Things have moved on at a pace since my last Blog in May.

Our Provincial Grand Court meeting will take place on the 28th September at Bury St Edmunds when, all being well, the Grand Master MW Bro Paul Weldon Johnston will invest me as Provincial Grand Master. I will then Invest W Bro Danny Ellis as my Deputy.

I trust that as many of you as possible will attend what should be a most enjoyable day. I strongly recommend that you take this opportunity to meet the Grand Master in person. All members of the Province can attend no matter what Rank or how new they are to the Order.

I must congratulate W Bro John Grevatt on his well-deserved preferment to the rank of Past Grand Banner Bearer, which will take place at the Grand Court meeting in Leicester on the 26th October. John was a founder member of our Primus Court, the Court of Aelfred No 2, in October 2005 where he was master in 2009. He also served the Province as Eminent Provincial Grand Prior for many years.

Congratulations also to W Bro Pat Denny and W Bro Terry Lewis who have been invited to be candidates for the rank of KAG in the Ancient Masonic Order of King Alfred the Great. Both these brethren have shown extraordinary commitment to the Province over many years. Their ceremony will take place at Leicester on the 25th October.

The Province of East Anglia was very well represented, by members of the Province, at various Provincial Meetings and new Court Consecrations over the last 3 months in such far flung places as:-
Blyth (Northumbria), Mark Masons Hall, Chester, Castle Eden (near Hartlepool), Halifax, and Kent. My thanks to all the members of the Province who attended those events, particularly the members of Court No 84.

For those of you who have not visited and registered on the East Anglia Provincial Website, I strongly advise that you do so. Please register as soon as possible to get the best out of this service which is for you. The old adage is “use it, or lose it”. Sign up here.

In the “Members only” area you will find the 1st edition of the East Anglia Provincial Yearbook which you can download, as well as a Handbook for the Guidance of Court Marshals, both of which I recommend to your attention. Other important documents will be of particular use to Court Secretaries.

The Provincial trifold booklet will be updated after the Provincial Meeting and I will supply copies through your Court Secretary when requested. They are a very useful tool to give to prospective “Instructees”.

I trust that my “Books of the Month” have been of some interest to you and are encouraging some of you to compile short papers for your Installation meetings.

I would particularly like to express my thanks to your Provincial Executive members for their dedicated support over the recent months, They are namely:-

  • W Bro Eddie Moore Provincial Grand Secretary
  • W Bro Peter Pryke Provincial Grand Treasurer
  • W Bro John Clarke Provincial Grand Marshal

They do a fantastic job on our behalf. I do not know what I would do without them.

I look forward to seeing all at Bury St Edmunds on 28th September, if not before

Yours sincerely and fraternally

Alex Allan
