PGM's Blog - September 2020

Brethren, I trust that you are all well and still taking care during these uncertain times.

So far, we have had no reported cases of Covid-19 within our membership in the Province. Let us hope that in the coming months we can continue reporting this good news.

Unfortunately, it is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of RW Bro Roy Foster to the Grand Court above, on the 12th August.

The advice from Grand Court remains the same (suspension until the end of the year).

Masonic Centres across East Anglia continue to assess the possibility of re-opening after the COVID-19 closedown. Most have concluded that it is not practicable to re-open yet and will defer a decision until later in the year.

The Friday 16.15 hrs “Zoom into Athelstan East Anglia” has grown in popularity and continues to get great support. If you have not tried it yet, please do. The Court of Herbert de Losinga No 31 holds a weekly meeting, and The Court of Aelfred No 2, hold a monthly meeting. Why not get your Court to do something similar?

As already stated, the Provincial Grand Court meeting will not now take place on the 26th September.

On the 8th September, our Grand Master MW Bro Paul Johnston gave an excellent “Zoom” presentation of the Order on the Freemasons Without Borders channel. For those who have not seen it, it is now available to view on the Athelstan YouTube channel.

I trust that all of you who read the FMT magazine have enjoyed the articles by our very own W Bro Dan Heath PJGD. Dan is a Past Master of Court No 2 and is of course Assistant Grand Secretary of Mark Masons’ Hall.

Recent FMT’s articles, written by Dan, feature the following degrees: -

  • Autumn 2019 Allied Masonic Degrees
  • Winter 2019 Mark Degree
  • Spring 2020 Royal Ark Mariner
  • Summer 2020 Red Cross of Constantine
  • Autumn 2020 Order of the Secret Monitor

If you are not a member of these Orders the articles give a remarkably interesting insight into other aspects of Freemasonry.

In the meantime, please look after yourselves, and your families, and I will be in touch again in due course. Do not forget to Zoom in and have a laugh with your likeminded Brethren.

Yours sincerely and fraternally

Alex Allan
