Friday 18th February 2022 will go down in Annals of the Province of East Anglia.
Whilst the Anglo-Saxon Kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia were battening down the hatches in the face of Storm Eunice, sedition was afoot. At the first regular meeting of the Court of Keith Ansell at Grantebrycge No 150, the erstwhile downtrodden Brythonic Celts were seizing the opportunity to re-establish themselves as a force in British history.
These brave souls came from the North (Norwich), the South (Ware), the East (Edwardstone), and the West (St Neots) to gather at the hamlet of Grantebrycge.
Their leader David (Red Dragon) Cameron a Celt from Cymru, aided and abetted by his loyal henchman John (the Leprechaun) Jones, a native of the Emerald Isle of Hibernia, having coerced the assistance of Alex (Ri of the Selgovae) Allan a Celt, from Alt Clut (Strathclyde) and Edmund (Font of all knowledge) Moore, from Norvic (Norwich), set about laying down a new standard for all Courts in the Province to admire and follow. Whether they achieved it, or not, only those present will know. All of Red Dragon Cameron’s followers put on a great performance in spite of the unavoidable absentees due to the inclement weather. Many of the ceorls, theigns, and eoldermen present stepped into unknown territory and performed their allotted tasks admirably.
Two new members were “Instructed” into the Order, namely Brother Paul Gillingwater and Brother John Sinclair. W Bro. Kevin Mader was duly Consecrated and Dedicated as Eminent Prior. All in all, a great night was had by all, which augurs well for the future of this fledgling Court.
Perhaps 2022 is not the time for a Celtic revolt, so in future the Court and the Province will revert to its Anglo-Saxon roots. Nevertheless, it was fun while it lasted.
Unfortunately, we had to report the passing to the Grand Court above of Brother David Simpson who died as a result of a tragic accident. He will be sadly missed both in Court 150 and the Court of St Ambrose No 8, his mother Court.
Brethren, having just completed 10 days of self-isolation, I can assure you that the Covid-19 is still in our midst, and whilst Freemasonry is gradually coming back to life again, we must still be careful and look after ourselves, our family, and our fellow man.
Your Provincial Grand Secretary Worshipful Brother Eddie Moore continues to update all the members of any important communications from Grand Court, so I will not repeat them here. Eddie has also updated the Provincial Yearbook as of 18th February, and it is available for downloading on the Provincial Website, along with various other “goodies”, including many interesting photos taken during our weekend in Leicester.
Don’t forget to keep up to date with events in the Order on YouTube, Facebook, and both our Grand Court and Provincial websites.
My Challenge to those members interested in research of Anglo-Saxon history is to have a go at understanding some of the names in the piece about Court No 150.
In the meantime, please look after yourselves, and your families, and I will be in touch again in due course.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
Alex Allan
