The Ancient Masonic Order of Alfred the Great (AMOAG) became a Soveregn Order at a memorable meeting of the King's Council of the Order in Leicester on 1st July.

Over 100 Knights of the Order gathered to witness the unique pageant of the signing of a Charter of Soveregnty by the Grand Master of the Masonic Order of Athelstan MWBro PW Johnston, and the  Sovereign Grand Master of AMOAG, Sir Kt Dr Christopher Ansell, who was installed into that office immediately prior to the signing of the Charter.

The newly sovereign Order also adopted new statutes defining its membership and its new geographical regions and structure. The region of the Eastern Shires constitutes the Athelstan provinces of East Anglia, Essex and Kent and is overseen by newly invested Grand Chancellor Sir Kt Alex Allan. In the appointment of officers, Sir Kt Mark Shields became Marsahl of Ceremonial of the King's Council and Sir Kt Eddie Moore was re-appointed its Banner Bearer (E).

The AMOAG now has its own website at https://amoag.org.uk  were more photos from the day will shortly be published. A selection of images featuring East Anglian brethren are shown below.
